if i had a nickel everytime i read a romantasy book about a poor girl from the streets who got picked to participate in a trial between rich kids with superpowers, while having to live at the palace where the two brothers fell in love with her before she betrayed them and ran away, i'd have two nickels.

no bc the part in War Storm, right after they capture Maven and they're carrying him away and he's talking to the voice in his head saying, "I did as you said, I did as you said" breaks my heart into a million pieces every single time omg.

No one understands how much I love Mare for not hiding her M scar. Instead, displaying it proudly to not only show that she survived, but to really paint the picture of how much of a Monster Maven was.
She so brave

Me, thinking back to this scene in volume 2 of Red Queen, where Mare's best friend, after declaring her one-sided love, also tells her that we don't choose who we love (who we fall in love with in this context of course), then she thinks back to Maven and their kiss from volume 1, when she had just kissed Cale not so long ago.
Tumblr media
Me, thinking back to that moment in volume 3 where Mare says she's still clinging to the ghost of the man she thought Maven was and loved. That she wishes to believe that he is still there somewhere.
Tumblr media
Mare telling Maven that he broke her heart as much as Cale did in volume 4.
Tumblr media
Still in volume 4, Mare wanting to see Maven's body to be sure that he is really dead and that all her suffering is finally over, but at the same time, not wanting to see him and being relieved that his body was not found because seeing the Maven's corpse would have been the equivalent of seeing herself dead too.
Tumblr media
Then, Mare, in the last pages, mentioning all the people she misses : Maven being in it.
Tumblr media
Mare and Maven had a relationship that was twisted and toxic as hell, but they still loved each other...
Tumblr media
Bonus : Maven briefly regaining control of himself, letting Mare kill him so he wouldn't have to kill her / because he didn't want to kill her.

You know, I think it would be pretty interesting if in War Storm they actually did find a Newblood to cure Maven but when he gets cured and back to normal he doesn't remember a single thing he did while under Elara's control because it wasn't him at all and he's like super confused or something when they tell him how long its been and something something idk

Guys, I think I'm falling into the trap.
I read Red Queen probably around 7-8 years ago and I have a vague idea of what happens. Specifically with Maven.
But I'm restarting the series because I had no idea there was a fifth book.
I'm on chapter 16 right now and I just can't- Maven is so sweet and I know it's not going to end well and I know I'm fucked.

Why is it that some people legitimately can鈥檛 separate fiction from real life???
Liking and sexualizing that hot villain that kills people doesn鈥檛 mean I鈥檓 going to kill people and support murderers in real life, LET IT SINK IN

posting this mareven art i made a while ago based on this vampire!au i read on ao3 (To Drink a Poisoned Cup - beforeilearnedcivility), i should draw them more! [ID: Two paintings of Maven Calore and Mare Barrow from the Red Queen Series. In the first one, Maven is on the lest, wearing a black shirt with a red vest and black ascot with a gem fastened at the neck. Mare is wearing a black dress, grey cross necklace with a red gem at the intersection, and holding a dagger. The second painting is the same, but both of their mouths are open to reveal fangs. Maven has blood dripping from his mouth. /end ID] ty drewtanakagf!聽

Can we all agree that the Red Queen did the Brotherly Love-Triangle trope WAY better than the Inheritance Games

okay mareven has fans but why do you think the books, ship and maven aren鈥檛 as popular as other ya book bfs like cardan, aaron warner, etc. it was so popular back in the day
I think it's just because it's not as well known.
The majority of people who have read the Red Queen series have Maven as their favorite character, as well as ship Mareven as a bonus generally.
So again, I think it's just because the series isn't as well known.
Also, you may not believe it, but there was a time when the Shatter Me series was not very well known, nor was Warner and Warnette.
Only a small handful of people talk about it on the internet.
For years I felt quite alone in unconditionally adoring / loving this series, the character of Warner and the Warnette ship.
Today, for some reason that I can't really explain (but which makes me very happy), the Shatter Me series has exploded in terms of popularity.
Red Queen has its audience and always has, and that audience seems to love Maven and Mareven. But once again, this audience is probably not as big as that of the Shatter Me or the Folk of the Air series.
